Holistic Wellbeing Pro Tips
Having worked in health and social care in Northern Ireland since forever!!! I'm well versed in how important self care is, that's why I've put together this helpful little page of info! Self-care and well-being are not just concepts; they're the cornerstone of our micro-business, and if you're curious about our journey, you can find it in 'Our Story.'
Staying on top of our mental wellbeing shouldn't be a last ditch attempt when crisis hits, it should be something we work on every day. Whether that includes going for a walk, eating right, reducing our alcohol intake, spending time with friends or loved ones. It's about whatever lifts your spirits and contributes positively to your life.
It's really important to recognise the differences between self-care and basic care. While a shower falls into basic care, self-care goes beyond, encompassing activities that nurture your inner well-being. If you find yourself struggling even with basic care, it may be time to pause and reflect on the changes needed. Check out the phone numbers at the bottom of the page to reach out for help!
1. Reframe unhelpful thoughts
Our thoughts, emotions, and actions are connected. Sometimes, we may have unproductive thought or behaviour patterns. Identifying these patterns and making an effort to approach things from a different way can make you feel better overall.
2. Be in the present
If we take time to be aware of ourselves and be present or 'in the moment', noticing our own thoughts and feelings and behaviours, noticing the world around us, we can gain a better perspective. Sometimes this is known as being mindful.
3. Get good sleep
The quality of your sleep matters, but so do your sleep routines. Establishing healthy sleep habits can make a world of difference.
4. Connect with others
Spending quality time with loved ones, having heart-to-heart conversations about how we're doing, or lending a hand to others can truly ward off loneliness and give a significant boost to your mental well-being. And remember, these connections can happen online, over the phone, or in person – whatever feels most comfortable for you.
5. Live a healthy life
Getting moving, soaking up nature, and eating a balanced diet can totally boost our mood. And you know what? Ditching those bad habits like smoking, and easing up on alcohol and caffeine, can put a smile on our faces too!
6. Do something for yourself
Whether it's diving into your beloved hobby, picking up a fresh skill, or just chilling out and unwinding, it's crucial to do things that light up your heart – maybe trying out a new hobby or learning something new can be just the ticket!
7. Write a letter to future you
When you're in a good place, take a moment to ponder what advice you'd give your future self if things ever get tough and you need some extra support. Holding onto those positive thoughts can be a real lifeline during those challenging moments down the road.
